Internet Basics

The Forward & Back buttons help you navigate around the Internet. You can click Back multiple times to get back to a page you came from. If you go Back to far you can use the Forward button to move forward.

The Address Bar allows you to type in the address of a site you may want to go to. Just type the address in the Address Bar and hit enter to go.

The Stop button attempts to Stop loading a page. Use this if something is taking to long or you decided that you don’t really want to go to a site.

The Refresh button reloads a page from the Internet. Use this if a page updates frequently or if something is wrong with the way the page looks.

The Search button goes to an Internet Search page. You may customize this button to whatever Search engine you prefer in View-> Options on the Navigation tab.

The Home button goes directly to your Start page. The Start page is the page that loads automatically when you open Internet Explorer. You may also customize your Start page in View -> Options on the Navigation tab.

The Print button prints the page you are currently viewing. Be careful when you print not to print a site that may be 50 pages long!

The Favorites List is a list of sites that you can go to directly by clicking on the page you want in the Favorites List.

To Add to Favorites click Favorites -> Add to Favorites. The page you are currently viewing will be added to your Favorites List.

If you get a long list of Favorites you may want to Organize Your Favorites by putting them into folders. Click Favorites -> Organize Favorites. You can create folders and move Favorites into them.

To Save a Page click File -> Save as File. This will save the text of the page you are currently viewing. This does not save any of the pictures on that page. Pictures must be saved separately.

To Save a Picture right-click or bottom-click on the picture you want and choose Save as Picture. This will save just the picture you chose.

You may Copy and Paste text from Internet Explorer into Microsoft Word, etc. in the same way you can with all the other Microsoft Office applications.

The following is a list of a few popular Search Engines that you may begin to experiment with:
