Resize All Pictures in a Folder for Web Pages
Issue: Full sized digital pictures are too large for web pages or greatly slow the page load time down. Even when they are resized. Users may "resample" images in FrontPage once the pictures are in a web page but this requires an additional step for each picture added.

Solution: Follow the steps here using Microsoft Picture Manager to resize all pictures in a folder to prepare to use them in on a web page:

If you are a visual learner, view a multimedia demonstration.

  1. Collect all the pictures you would like to resize into one folder.
  2. Copy and paste the folder.
  3. Rename the second folder to convey that it will contain the smaller web images
  4. Open Microsoft Office Picture Manager:
    1. Click Start
    2. All Programs
    3. Microsoft Office
    4. Microsoft Office Tools
    5. Microsoft Office Picture Manager
  5. Click Add Picture Shortcut...

  6. Use the file manager to find your newly copied and pasted images folder
  7. Click Add
  8. The pictures will now be in the image view window
  9. Use the View buttons to pick a useful view of all of your images

  10. Push CTRL-A or Edit/Select All to select all the pictures to be resized.
  11. In the Getting Started menu, select Resize

  12. In Predefined width x height: Select Web Small (Note: this is the best size for including many standard sized pictures on a web page. Otherwise, experiment with the other settings and options.)

  13. Click the Ok button
  14. You will notice an asterisk next to the file name of each image you selected. This indicates that the reduced images must be saved before exiting.
  15. Click File/Save All (Note: If you do not save the files, the program will prompt you when exiting.)
  16. You're Done! Add the files to FrontPage as usual.
