Accessing TrevorNet from Home Computers

Trevor Day Technology: Accessing TrevorNet from Home Computers

While the easiest method of working with TrevorNet’s email system is from within the school itself, accommodations have been made to allow for home access of the email system via a web-based interface.

Accessing TrevorNet from your Home Computer

  • Internet connections vary (DSL, Cable, Modem, etc.). Regardless of your connection, be sure it is active. You can determine if your connection on your computer is active by opening Internet Explorer (or Netscape Navigator) and navigating to any given web address.
  • Head to the TrevorNet website located at http://www.trevornet.org (enter this address into the address bar of the Internet Explorer browser window).
  • Feel free to explore the website. It is full of useful information and resources!

Accessing TrevorNet Email System from Your Home Computer

  • Return to the TrevorNet home page at http://www.trevornet.org
  • Click the link towards the top right of the page next to the Email section labeled "East Campus"
  • Type in the 4th grade students’ logon (example: "jsmith") and press Enter
  • When the authentication dialogue box pops up, re-enter the logon, except with an "ec\" in front of the logon (example: "ec\jsmith"). Enter the students’ password in the password box. Press Enter.
  • You will receive a notice that the user’s password will expire in 0 days. This message can be ignored. Simply click OK to continue.
  • You will now be in the Outlook Web Access email interface, looking at the Inbox. Click on messages to open them in a new window
  • Click the "?" towards the top right of the screen for further Help on how to use this email system.

Working with Email Attachments

  • When opening an attachment from an email, you will be prompted to either Open or Save the document. It is recommended to SAVE THE DOCUMENT to your local machine as a new file on your computer. When the download is complete, you can then click the Open button to open the document in its correct application (e.g., Microsoft Word).
  • Remember never to save unknown documents or those from people you do not know!
  • Work on the document, and remember to save often!

Adding Attachments to Emails

  • When you are finished with the document, save it and EXIT THE APPLICATION (e.g., exit Microsoft Word). This will unlock the file and allow it to be attached to an email.
  • Switch back to your browser window containing the Outlook Web Access email system.
  • Note that if you are not active on the email system for a specified period of time (approximately 15 minutes), it will log you out automatically. Simply re-log in to access the system again.
  • Reply to the original message or compose a new message accordingly.
  • To add an attachment to your email, click the Attachments tab along the top middle of the page. Click the Browse button, find and select your file, and click Open (note this does not open the file, it simply places the name in the attachment filename box).
  • Click the Add Attachment Now button.
  • Repeat for any additional files you want to attach.
