Students must be accepted to the college or university through the Opportunity Program Admission Office of the college. Demonstrate financial need and meet the economic and educational eligibility criteria of the program. Must be NYS residents, attend a NYS college sponsoring the program, and meet opportunity program guidelines. College or University

TAP

Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

NYS residents who submit a FAFSA indicating at least one NYS Institution will be sent a pre-printed TAP application form which must be completed, signed and returned to the NYSHESC by May 1, 1999/ US citizens or eligible noncitizen and also NYS residents enrolled for 12 credits or more in an approved program. Undergraduate students who are dependent or who are financially independent and married OR have tax dependents. Dependent on income. New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (NYSHESC)

FSL

Federal Stafford Loan Program (subsidized)

File FAFSA in January. Same as Perkins and FSEOG. Subsidized Federal Stafford Loans are based on demonstrated need; the federal government pays the interest while the student attends school. Federal Government
UFSL

Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan Program

Same as FSL. Same as for Perkins and FSEOG. Unlike the subsidized loan, the student is responsible for interest that accrues from the date of disbursement. Federal Government
FPLUS

Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students

Contact local lender for application. Completed forms should be submitted directly to the college Financial Aid Office. No need to file financial aid forms. Federal Direct Student Loan Program

ROTC

Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarships

Contact ROTC unit at the college, or call your local Army, Navy, or Air Force Recruiting Office. Application deadline is usually December. Competitive; selection based on high school record and other criteria. Federal Government
